Conventional stud finders can only see the wall in one location at a time; as a result the user must slide the finder back and forth across the wall to “learn” the wall. However, the ProSensor 710 has thirteen sensor plates that allow it to see the wall in thirteen locations at once. Because it can see several regions of the wall at one time, the ProSensor 710 learns the wall instantly when it is placed on the wall, and is more accurate.
The ProSensor charges and discharges its sensor pads thousands of times per second and senses how difficult it is to charge and discharge the sensor pads. Regions that are near a stud are a little bit harder to charge and discharge. The ProSensor 710 has high precision circuitry that uses these readings to identify he precise location of studs.
The ProSensor is available in the United States and internationally.
You can press the button on the ProSensor 710 before you have placed it on a wall or after you have placed it on a wall. The ProSensor 710 is easy to use because there is no specific order of operations that a user must follow for it to work correctly. In contrast, other finders have a specific set of steps that must be followed precisely for them to operate correctly.
Yes the finder can detect studs and beams through textures on walls and ceilings. It has been tested on both light textures and very heavy textures and has proven to consistently find studs successfully through texturing. The ProSensor 710 has also been compared to other stud finders on textured surfaces. The ProSensor 710 consistently proved to be better at detecting studs through wall textures and ceiling textures.
Most electronic stud finders were designed several years ago using older electronics. The ProSensor 710 was introduced into mass production in 2011 and uses the newest electronics that provide the cleanest readings.
Yes the ProSensor 710 can detect metal studs and beams, in addition to wood studs and beams. The ProSensor 710 automatically self-tunes itself to the type of stud that is present.
Franklin Sensors has filed numerous US and international patents that cover the ProSensor 710.
The ProSensor 710 is very easy to use. We have been told again and again that it is the easiest stud finder to operate. You just need to press the button and place it on the wall to see location of studs.
Yes, the ProSensor 710 is FCC compliant.
The ProSensor 710 has been tested on several lathe and plaster walls and it worked successfully on all of them. However, electronic stud finders will only work if the wall surface is reasonably uniform. If a lathe and plaster wall were to have a high degree of inconsistency the ProSensor 710 may not work very well, or may not work at all. There is no guarantee that the ProSensor 710 will work on all lathe and plaster walls.
Conventional electronic stud finders rely on a reading from a single point on the wall to determine whether or not a stud is present. If there is a defect in the wall at the point that is being read, the readings may be incorrect. There are a variety of defects that can cause erroneous readings: a thick layer of paint that is adjacent to a thin layer of paint, a bubble in the sheetrock material, plaster that is thicker one side of the finder, a certain wall paper pattern, wall and ceiling texturing, a nail or screw that is not centered on the stud, etc. Fortunately the ProSensor 710 doesn’t rely on a single reading to determine the position of a stud. The ProSensor 710 can sense both sides of a stud, the center of the stud, and the surrounding sheetrock all simultaneously. It uses the information from all these readings to determine the location of a stud. As a result it is much less vulnerable to an error from a single inconsistency.
It is not recommended to use the ProSensor 710 on concrete. It was designed for use through walls and ceilings to detect wood and metal studs and beams.
